Yes, you read that right. How to fly for free! Everyone wants to travel, but no one wants to spend the money, so here are a few tips on how you can fly for free:
- Take advantage of the United Mileage Plus Sign Up Offer
Only apply for this card when they run this offer, which is almost always. It will give you 60,000 Bonus Miles for spending $3,000 within the first three months. Currently they’re offering 40,000 miles when you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months, and an additional 25,000 miles when you spend $10,000 in the first 6 months. That my sound like a lot of money, but instead of using cash or a debit card, put everything you would typically purchase on your credit card. Doing Christmas shopping? Credit card. Need to pay rent? Credit card. Buying groceries? Credit Card. You get the point.
Doing this will easily rack up money on your credit card, and you will hit the spending requirement in no time. 60,000 miles essentially gives you two round trip plane tickets to anywhere in the nation for free, plus a little left over. I live in Florida and I got two round trip tickets to New York and back for FREEEEEEE. Who doesn’t love free things?
2. Do all of your online shopping through the Mileage Plus Shopping link.
Instead of going to amazon to order things, because us millennials love online shopping, simply sign in to your MileagePlus Account, click on their MileagePlus Shopping Link, and then search for amazon.com. Now do your shopping. Getting there through this portal that takes all of two extra seconds to find and will earn you a lot more bang for your buck. They offer multiple miles per dollar, and different deals depending on the store you are purchasing from.
There are sooo many offers for any store you could imagine!
Aside from shopping, also enjoy eating and earn miles.
3. Join the MileagePlus Dining Program.
Just for signing up for the program (which is free) you get 2,500 miles. Then, if you spend $25 at your first restaurant on their list (which is almost any restaurant you can think of) and pay with you United Credit Card you get an additional 1,000 miles. Finally earn 500 miles on each of your next 3 restaurant visits if you spend another $25 and pay with you card. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
4. Use their preferred partners in home insurance, car insurance, etc.
For example, if Liberty Mutual gives you the cheapest insurance rates anyways, then go ahead and make the switch and earn up to 10,000 bonus miles.
5. Use the portal to book hotels, cruises, or even fly with their partner airlines to earn double points per dollar.
The catch: the card gives you the first year for free, but after that it costs $95 annually to own it. Is it still worth it? Heck yes!!
You get one free checked bag for yourself, and one for your companion. You also get two tickets to their Secret Lounge every year. The checked baggage alone already pays for the cost of the card, so in my opinion it is totally worth it.
